Oh man, I'm so excited and so nervous. I've been wanting to do Yuletide for three years, but I'm so bad at deadlines that I never felt like I could commit to it before. (And then there was the year where only people who'd done it before or who wrote a New Year's Resolution fic were allowed in.) But! I'm feeling energetic and hopeful this year, so I'm going to dive in and give it my best! And wow, I sound like a high school pep squad. But... Yuletide! Small fandoms! Whee!
And as if that wasn't enough to be happy about:
ANANSI BOYS by Neil Gaiman is being made into an adaptation for radio! See here and here for pictures! After I read the book all I could talk about was how awesome it would be as a movie, but actually a radio play is perfect because a) less expensive and, b) it won't be fucked up beyond all recognition. Best of all, the roles won't be (haven't been) re-cast white, like in certain other movies that shall go unnamed.
AHH, I'M SO EXCITED!
Cast:
Directed by Anne Edyvean

Graham Coats, Tiger... Matt Lucas
Anansi... Rudolph Walker
Mrs Noah, Bird Woman... Dona Croll
Mrs Higgler... Tameka Empson
Rosie... Petra Letang

Lenny Henry is a comedian (he was on Chef! which I haven't seen sadly. Damn living in the U.S.) and has done tons of acting and voice-acting, including voicing the "shrunken head" in the third Harry Potter movie. And he's done some singing as well, which is important of course (at least I HOPE they're keeping the singing in. They've got to.) He did the audio book of Anansi Boys too. And, not that it makes any difference in this case, but he's very good-looking. That picture of him in a suit, I can totally picture him as Fat Charlie.
Petra Letang, who I think is absolutely gorgeous, played Naomi Julien, a lesbian character on EasterEnders, and has done a bunch of other TV as well. She played on stage in Funny Black Women On the Edge this year. Jocelyn Jee Esien is another comedian (as is Matt Lucas), who has her own comedy show that's on its second season. According to wikipedia, she's the FIRST black woman in the USA or UK to have her own solo comedy show.
Rudolf Walker has also been on EastEnders and he was in Ali G Indahouse. He guest-starred in an episode of Doctor Who back when it was still in black-and-white. He's also an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire.)
It's like they got together the most awesome people ever. No, wait, they did!
The radio broadcast will air on 17 November 2007 and I REALLY hope someone puts it on the internet so I don't have to wait forever to hear it.
This is going to rock so much.
