Guys, 5 acts is back again and it's super low pressure, you just write down some kinks and people write comment fic for you. Yay! I have a ton of ideas of things to write, now I just need to get down to it. (Note to self: you are not allowed to do any more canon rewatch just to write comment fic.)

[community profile] femslash12 stories are out! The masterlist is up here.

My favorite one so far: cupid's got a gun by [archiveofourown.org profile] lastwingedthing, which is Teen Wolf, Lydia Martin/Ms Morell (played by Bianca Lawson aka the woman who doesn't age.) But it's really about Lydia and how she's strong and smart and she can't really deal with what's happened but she can do fucking magic and keep her head up. Basically this is what I want for Lydia - to see her come back from being someone else's pawn/object. And Ms Morell works really well as a mentor, someone who can keep up with Lydia and cares about her and won't lie to her. It's just brilliant, beautifully written, sweet and sad and hopeful. And the whole teacher/student thing is dealt with in the best possible way if that is a squick. GO GO READ IT.

Aaand... it is way past time for me to go to bed. The boy is sick with a cold and I really need to try to avoid getting sick too. But I was determined to post this before I get busy and forget.

At some point I will make the post about what is going on with my life these days (I has jobs!) and try to catch up with folks. I do not understand what LJ has done to filters - every time I try to read my flist, I am pulled into the vortex of fanficrants or something like that. I'm guessing that means it's time to do some housekeeping. Ehhhh.

Fellow media fan and trans man [livejournal.com profile] boi4eliza has his first album coming out! You might remember James from those incredibly catchy bandom songs that he wrote and sung himself: OTP, Pint-sized Romeo, and Boy in the Trucker Cap. The album is a mix of acoustic and rock, and what I've heard so far sounds awesome!

James is also planning to put all the profits from the CD towards his chest surgery. In case you don't know, in most places insurance companies won't cover surgery that trans people need to transition. Despite this, it's often impossible to legally change your gender without having had surgery.* Insurance companies defend this practice by saying it's only "cosmetic surgery." But for many trans men this is an essential medical procedure in order to live their lives fully, without (or with less of) the despair and distress of body dysphoria, the pain of daily binding, and the fear of not passing. For a singer - someone who makes a living from their voice - it's even more freeing.

So far, James has had a hard time getting his announcement into both trans and bandom communities. If you can help with this or just pass on the word via your journal, that would be amazing.

MORE INFO ON THE ALBUM AND HOW TO ORDER HERE.

If you're in the States, [livejournal.com profile] jarrow is doing a mass shipping order: GO HERE IF YOU WANT FREE SHIPPING AND YOU'RE IN THE U.S.

Finally, to give this a little boost, if you comment here and say you want a copy of the CD, I will put your name in a hat and WHOEVER I PICK OUT OF IT WILL GET A FREE COPY, care of me. Awesome, y/y? The deadline to put your name in is Monday September 28 at midnight EST. (And this one goes for anyone, whether you live in the States or not. Please also leave your email if it's not easily findable.)

*I don't know exactly what James' situation is wrt insurance and legal stuff (and it's not my place to ask) but nearly all trans people face huge obstacles to getting surgery. I think this is unjust and believe that trans people should try to support each other's attempts to pay for surgery whenever possible.

HOLYFUCKHOLYFUCKHOLYFUCK. I MADE IT. WITH A MINUTE OR TWO TO SPARE. \o/

My fic for Femslash09 is up over here (I recommend reading it with a white background but whatever.) It's Dr. Horrible, Groupie 1/Groupie 2. I haven't really had time to be nervous about it, but now that's it's posted I'm extremely nervous. AHHHHH. I shall go to bed and pray for comments in the morning.

I received an incredibly awesome fic for Femslash09: More Than Nostalgia by [livejournal.com profile] hyel. It's Faculty fic, with Stokely/Marybeth and Stokely/Delilah. AS;LKAJSDKFLJKL! I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU HOW HAPPY IT MAKES ME. It's both creepy and sweet, it plays with the lesbian insinuations from the movie, and the voices are perfect. AND DID I MENTION: FACULTY FEMSLASH!!!! ALSDKF;ALKSDJFKLASJDFKLJAKSJDFKJAS!

Aaand, I also received fic from the Apocalyptothon. (Which I, being extremely lame, am still working on my fic for. Errgh.) Anyway, Delirium by [livejournal.com profile] inveigler is harsh and gorgeous and heart-wrenching and has some of the best lines I've ever read. It's Spike/Xander, post-vampire apocalypse, road-trip fic (and it's LONG) and it's exactly what I wanted.

I'm looking forward to reading more of both ficathons (*cough* once I finish my fic) but here's a couple quick recs:

ifake an interest (iCarly, Sam/Carly) by [livejournal.com profile] lilysaid - I don't know the fandom, but I still really enjoyed this.

Rapture on the Rise by [livejournal.com profile] kanedax - hilarious Dr. Horrible fic. I love the way the author reused and altered elements from the show to create the AU.
This Merlin fanart by korilian is gorgeous and more people need to see it.

That is all.
So, [livejournal.com profile] thejumpcut was inspired by the music video for Birthday Girl (by the Roots w/ Patrick Stump) to write this delicious story where Patrick Stump meets Sasha Grey. It will set your panties/boxers* on fire. Go read it here:

Featuring by [livejournal.com profile] thejumpcut

In honor of this undiluted awesomeness, I've uploaded some lesbian bdsm pr0n, featuring Miss Grey, naturally, which is linked in a friends-locked entry. If you're not on my flist, you can leave your email address (will be screened) and I'll send you the link. My apologies if this makes anyone uncomfortable and please let me know (anonymous is okay) and I'll put this behind a cut, at least.

*I don't even want to imagine what would happen if you're going commando. :-O
I just missed the cut-off for porn battle prompts with my last set by ten minutes. I had all my OT4 prompts in there so I'm really hoping... *crosses fingers* We'll see tomorrow morning.

There's so much SGA OT4 love going on right now. [livejournal.com profile] team_sga is having a month-long AU ficathon. Already, there's a really awesome story by [livejournal.com profile] briar_pipe with the team as kids. And (unconnected to the ficathon) there's [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777's wonderful OT4 story with a pregnant Teyla and an uncertain John.
I'm trying to keep up with livejournal but it just ain't happenin'. Still here's a few pretties I've stumbled across on my infrequent jaunts into fandom-land...

Fear Not Guilt by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle (ATS, Angel/Wesley) This almost made me cry. Srsly, go read it.

Love Warrior (fanart) by [livejournal.com profile] echelon_ga_l for The Czech is in the Male (hee!) ficathon. Radek/Ronon comic strip and immensely cute!

In case it hasn't been recced up and down to you, go read [livejournal.com profile] telesilla's modern-day-California vampire AU that doesn't use the word "vampire" once, It's What You Don't See (SGA, John/Rodney, NC-17 for hot blood-sucking sex!)

Some Burn Notice love... Adrenaline by [livejournal.com profile] wizefics (my yuletide writer!) - rough Michael/Fiona porn.

and as I slowly work my way through the [livejournal.com profile] winterdead_drop gifts, Down Time by [livejournal.com profile] mayatawi is a LONG Burn Notice/Casino Royale crossover with some v. hot Bond/Westen action that had me holding my breath. I haven't seen Casino Royale, movie-slacker that I am, but Daniel Craig is a hottie in Copenhagen.

And finally, [livejournal.com profile] hackthis's stories which are a total find... Like Wanted: One Fucking Miracle Worker - an Entourage/RPS (George Clooney)/Heroes/Burn Notice crossover. Entourage, I recently discovered, is awesome, especially Ari. He's kind of like a cruder version of what Rodney would be like if he was a Hollywood agent (by which I mean is he's an asshole but a loveable one.) It's Nathan/Peter Petrelli but just some hugging and kissing (PG-13.)

Check this: "I know a guy who knows a guy in Ireland," which Ari translates as George's ex-fuck buddy Michael Westen has an ex-fuck buddy in Ireland who's found the kid.

There's something wrong with my fannish brain that I always get really into shows when they're not on the air. I'm completely ignoring SGA right now, for example, and I'm really into Burn Notice which isn't on for MONTHS. What's your damage, brain?

And what's the deal with nipples, anyway?

Rec

Worth by [livejournal.com profile] bitterfig
The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle, Molly Grue/Lady Amalthea
The tone is so like the book and makes some wry commentary in a similar (if slightly less subtle) way as Beagle. Lady Amalthea tries to understand love and comes to some unexpected conclusions. (The slash is quite light, so don't let the pairing put you off.)

There'll be more Yuletide recs later, but I'm too tired now.

My ability to read Yuletide fics has kind of hit the wall. There's tons more wonderful stories but my mind is just like, nope, not gonna happen right now. Is anyone else getting that? I'm almost done with the third book of the Bartimaeus trilogy, so maybe that's what's taken all my reading brainpower. *sigh* I suppose I need to accept this and move on.

I'm home alone at the moment (the boy is away til Monday.) I've been going to campus, which is deserted, to use the computers. I'm starting to get that feeling I get when I haven't talked to anyone but my cat for a couple days. I can't install anything on the computers here, so no AIM for me either. Baaah. I should write. But that would require opening a word document or something. Much too strenuous, really. Isn't there a German word for this feeling? "Gemutlich" or something? No, wait, that's "cosy." Anyone? Bueller?

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_addme is one of the featured comms on the front page right now. I think this may be the first time I've seen a specifically fandom-related comm featured.

Oh God. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the Age of Sail McKay/Sheppard art. So, so pretty!

And THIS. Might be my favorite of the lot. Oh my god. WOW. And hell, go look at them all! They're all fantastic.

This was what I needed. To look at fanart instead of fanfic. *rings the obvious bell*

Panels for Insecurity Comics! (The awesome Dinosaur Comics fic someone wrote for Yuletide.) By [livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana and the author. So much awesome! Fandom, ILU.

4 more recs:

Look Up - Ma Vie En Rose. Chris and Ludo, a little older.

Miss Ambrose - House of Wax. Carly/Nick.

As Many as Stars in the Sky - Neverending Story, another untold story (don't have to know the canon.)

Highway Lessons - Wise Child. (I haven't read the books in a long time but this still worked.)

Some stories you don't have to know the canon (I think) to enjoy:

The Hustle
"Déjà vu is the inexplicable feeling that you've done something before when it is in reality a new experience to you, and puking behind the Crazy Russian with a stripper's thong wrapped around your hand cannot in truth be said to be either inexplicable or a new fucking experience..."

Stories in Lockdown
Like the way water in the shower made his tattoos stand out boldly, even against skin that always somehow seemed at least slightly tanned. The way that sometimes, even when he was laughing, he looked like a wolf in the too bright lights.

Birth Pains
Most nights found Virginia sitting in her sway back chair with one hand on either side of her stomach, staring off into space as her skin rose and fell in odd, almost unnaturally violent movements. She tried not to cringe, but often failed.

a life half-lived
Fran believes, but: there's a rhythm beating in Fran's heart and mind that her feet can't follow.

Proof
"Really, Thomasina. You could just have easily said 'what is that?' and I would be no more or less clear as to your meaning. When 'this' and 'that' might as well mean the same thing, what one is experiencing is a breakdown of the rules of grammar."

My Flatpoint, Tis of Thee
"He's right!" said Blackman. "We have to find a way to beat her like Napoleon beat the British at Waterloo, before we exiled to a small island." He paused, thoughtfully. "Hmm... a small island... doesn't sound bad." He got out a personal dictaphone and spoke into it. "Note, get myself exiled to a small island."

I'm sitting in the Concord, NH library right now using one of their computers. Holidays have been great (spent my birthday and Christmas at home and went to the boy's family yesterday) and I'm on my way home now (boy is going to Boston for the week.) I'm basically computerless right now but I'm thinking about buying a mac laptop. Planning to buy online, but, of course, that's a little tricky when I don't have computer access... If anyone has recommendations, I'd be happy to hear them (when I can get online again.) I'm looking in the $1000-and-under range - so far, mostly on Small Dog Electronics and amazon.com...

But guess what? MY YULETIDE STORY IS AWESOME!

Triangulation is a Burn Notice story and it's a Fiona/Michael/Sam triangle and it's wonderful and smart and awesome and makes me like all of them all the more. I would rave about it more if I had time.

I haven't read too many others yet, but here's some I liked:
Heart's Desire (Stardust, focuses on Dunstan)

Insecurity Comics (Dinosaur Comics fandom. It wins. It just SOUNDS like the comics!)

Paradigm Shift (History Boys, Dakin/Irwin. I love stories where the dynamics between two characters change like this. Lovely.)

Bartimaeus's Side of the Story (Bartimaeus Trilogy, gen, Ptolemy is in love with an afrit. Mucho awesome.)

I'm currently sitting in a hotel lobby using the free wireless. I should probably go back to my room and think about sleeping. Goals tonight included taking a bath and writing yuletide fic but instead I posted something on [livejournal.com profile] lolbrarians and looked at icons. And listened to bad xmas music remixes in the hotel lobby.

Ooh. Go watch this. It's kind of like a fanvid for 24 (which I don't watch)... BUT WITH LOLCATS. And in honor of the writer's strike. WIN.

My reading lately has been sparse, but I very much enjoyed these:

Limits by miera_c
(Sheppard/Lorne, second time, back on Earth, porny)

Reconnaisance by franticsga
(McKay/Sheppard gen, post-4x02 Lifeline)

Command Structure by Kat Reitz and Tzigane
(McKay/Sheppard, long and porny, bdsm, "when they were young")

Students of Hope (though I have it bookmarked as "Separated for years..." - oops) by scrunchy
(McKay/Sheppard gen, angsty, back on Earth, includes Carson, Elizabeth, Lorne, and Zelenka.)

Does anyone have any good angst stories or recs? My absolute favorite SGA angst is Charting the Motions of the Planets by Dasha. I'm sure there's many others I've enjoyed but my memory is a little foggy. And I forget to mark things as "angst" when I bookmark them. (I ask because I am trying to write something angsty. In this endeavor, penknife's essay On Writing Angst has been helpful. Another resource I've been using a lot lately is How to Construct Alternate Universes that Work as Fanfic by Rat Creature, which I consult whenever betaing crossovers.)

[livejournal.com profile] telesilla has declared it Smack a Lantean on the Ass Weekend for purposes of generating more SGA spanking fic. This makes me happy. And [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777 has already written John spanking Rodney and it's the really good porn: Shall Receive (NC-17, mild D/s.)

Some of my favorites from the current round of [livejournal.com profile] rounds_of_kink. They turned out to all be slash...

Due South
In My Best Friend's Bed by [livejournal.com profile] aingeal8c - Fraser/Vecchio, NC-17, buddy-sex.

House
House Rules by [livejournal.com profile] niektete - House/Wilson, R, very funny.

Prison Break
Tail by [livejournal.com profile] niektete - Michael/T-Bag, NC-17, NON-CON, rimming. Also funny.

SGA
Still a Kiss by [livejournal.com profile] allyndra - McKay/Sheppard, R, amnesia fic

Torchwood
Dead Man’s Float by [livejournal.com profile] silentflux - Jack/Ianto, PG-13ish, unrequited love(?)

RECS: (mostly SGA, with a few others at the end)

When I bookmark stories, I only ever tag them as "blowjob" if it's a really good one.

I Don't Know / Third Base by Caroline (SGA, Teyla/Rodney, NC-17) in which Rodney is just where Teyla wants him. By the way, is oral sex considered third base these days? I'm so behind the times.

Good Timing by toft_froggy (SGA, John/Rodney, NC-17) in which Rodney is convincing and there is damn good kissing.

The Blowjob Fic by thegrrrl (SGA, John/Rodney, NC-17) in which Rodney is again convincing and gives a damn good blowjob.

More good blowjobs... )

...and now I have this random urge to yell "Surprise Blowjob!"

Random rec:

hilarious comment fic by anonymous (Due South, PG-13) in which we learn why you should log out of Gmail before you Google something.

META:

revelininsanity talks about mental differences/disabilities in fic and fandom - I wish everyone would read this.

chopchica and a number of others talk about anti-semitism in fandom and elsewhere - also a good read though I'm a little unclear on what the original situation was.

My parents got back today back from Svalbard (they saw polar bears!) and they brought me Norwegian candy called daim (pronounced "dime.") It's hard caramel covered in chocolate. Mmmm, so good.

So, I finally got to watch "Sateda" tonight. I don't have much commentary other than to say that I think rivier hit the nail on the head about what they're doing to Rodney, I liked reading hth's take on Ronon and implications for Ronon/John and Ronon/Rodney, and toft_froggy made some interesting points about who wins the "most fucked up" award, John or Rodney. I love commentary! And for Sateda tagfic, my favorite has to be Replay by khohen1. Apparently Kavan Smith was supposed to play the part of that major - this is a rewrite with him in that role and it's so, so much better.
