I came upon this amazing site yesterday. Erection photos. It's not really at all sordid, though there are (obviously) explicit images. Here's how the site describes itself:
When we first started reading about and studying erections, we were struck by how much emphasis was placed on the "average" erection. But an average (an arithmetic mean) conceals as much as it reveals. It does not remind us of all the diverse numbers that went into the calculation of that average. This site tries to give reality to all the diversity that gets compressed into the concept of the "average penile erection."
It's very refreshing to see how many men have 4.5 inches or less (when hard) and still have perfectly good sex lives and very nice-looking cocks. There's a number of different curves that penises can have, and the angle when erect ranges from straight down to straight up and everywhere in between.
I especially recommend checking out the Soft-Hard Gallery. As far as I know, transguys' dicks don't "grow" as much, though.
And from a fandom POV, it's interesting to compare the reality to the fantasy presented in slash fiction. Once in a while, you see a small (or "slender") penis in a story, but more often it's 5-6" - or if not long, large in girth. Seems like almost always the angle is straight up - you hear a lot about cocks rubbing against stomachs... Though fanfic definitely seems less obsessed with size than the (original) gay fiction I've read. Since the latter is mostly written by gay/bisexual guys (I think) that sort of makes sense. I would like to read more stories where small dicks are shown as sexy... though I do sort of love the "damn, that feels really really big" type stories... Maybe someone could write a story where one guy isn't satisfied so his lover has to get a big ol' dyke-strap-on to fuck him with. That would be kinky. ;-)
