Just saw Catching Fire at the theater. It was awesome! I totally ship Haymitch/Katniss. WHOOPS. I think they translated the book really well to film. I enjoy not being stuck in Katniss' head all the time as in the books. The cuts to President Snow and Plutarch didn't seem as necessary as in the first movie (where they were used to good effect to fill exposition and give a sense of the larger world) - in this one, it was mostly watching them react to whatever Katniss was doing. But, great actors... Like Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, Philip Seymour Hoffman is a rather more likeable, down-to-earth version of Plutarch. I really enjoyed seeing all the settings and crazy costumes. I think the only parts that fell flat for me were the scene with the monkeys attacking in the arena and the last scene with Gale and Katniss. The part where Peeta comforts the morphling addict while she's dying was... odd. I'm not sure if it was because they cut the whole speech where he talks about his painting or just an acting issue. I don't think leaving out some of Peeta's storyline hurt the movie, but it made that scene feel like it was out of place?
I have plans to watch the Doctor Who 50th with work friends this weekend! Looking forward to that. Need to think of some DW-related food item to make.
(Oh man, it's been so long since my last post. Let's just skip over the past few months and say that things are betterish now. How have y'all been?)
