So, LJ Elections. This Jameth guy is apparently in fandom (of some sort) and a furry. So why is there all this fandom-bashing from his supporters? I don't get it. I've voted for the "fandom candidates" who are in the lead and who have been recommended as competent people with integrity, without doing a ton of research myself (no time) but it makes me uncomfortable to see this kind of divisiveness between fandom and non-fandom folk, or between different sections of fandom. And seriously, ONTD, you think you're less weird than Harry Potter nerds? Seriously?

Second question: can you/should you vote as many times as you can (i.e. one vote for each account you have) in the elections? Is that what's expected?

Finally, on a happy note! The masturbation sentence-a-thon keeps on giving: Travis, Sunday, Greta, shower, Pete, fursuit (yay finally!!), Gabe, dildo. ETA: more Gabe + dildo! (Plus, full listing.) In semi-response to the third (which you should read, even if you think fursuit sex is weird, it's so gorgeous) I wrote this, which is not as amazing but makes me happy:

Patrick doesn't really get it, not at first, and that's fine, he knew a long time ago that there were parts of Pete he wouldn't, couldn't ever get, but then Gabe asks him to do the Send Me video, and it's itchy and hot in the suit and not at all sexy, not until a month later when he walks in on Pete jacking off to the looped clip of him removing the bunny head, what the fuck, and Pete looks up at him and moans "fuck, Patrick," the purple head of his dick squeezed tight in his hand, and comes all over his t-shirt, and then Pete apologizes (though he doesn't say he'll get rid of the clip and Patrick doesn't ask him too) and they do not talk about it, because Pete knows Patrick's not into that stuff, not at all, except maybe for that one fantasy of a dick, Pete's dick, surrounded by soft white... or that other one where he is being petted and having his belly rubbed or maybe something else rubbed, and purring... or the one where they're biting and clawing and fucking like animals, because they are animals, and oh God, Pete has turned him into a fucking fursuit pervert... and it's totally awesome.

[Disclaimer: I do not claim to be accurately representing furry or fursuit sexuality (or even using the right terms, sorry sorry) so please don't use this as a reliable source of information on that subject. Thanks.]

Hah. Good point there.

but it makes me uncomfortable to see this kind of divisiveness between fandom and non-fandom folk

I dunno. I think it's more between very different sections, as you say in the next part? ONTD and other star-hounds (see me being judgmental!) are fans, too, just not of fictional characters but real people, who follow the written word about them.

Yeah, I agree. And there's definitely a lot of crossover between furry fandom and ONTD-type fandom and our fandom(s). I was a little bothered by the way some supporters of the "fandom candidates" have talked about furry candidates. It's like the geek hierarchy thing all over again, everyone wanting to get one up on "those freaks." But of course, we do value very different things and have different priorities. I don't know...

OTOH, the fandom candidates seem to be doing very well which either means fandom is way bigger than I thought or non/other fans are realizing that they're just good candidates in general. Or both! :-)

That last bit is so universal as to be the necessary premise, I think -- it seems only human to feel one's own interests are better or at least more interesting; there's little use in fighting that feeling. But how we express it, how we express ourselves? Damn straight we should control ourselves and attempt to see things from the other side, a little more rationally, a little more objectively.

So, while I indeed think furries are weirder than me, I don't feel the need to utter this in every venue, and I am aware of the cultural context of an industrialised society where animal selves and spirits or ritualised behaviour that involves them are seen as ridiculous. Two thousand years back right here where I live, though? No one would have laughed.

Heh. I do think both! (But then, what I saw of the competition was...disconcerting. Of course, I'm a very judgmental person, as we have established by now. *eg*)

This is true, yeah. It was weird that it came as a bit of an afterthought. *g*

But then, what I saw of the competition was...disconcerting.

See, now that just shows that you *have* judgement!

According to the rules as I understand them, you can vote once (changing votes is okay!) per account verified at a unique e-mail address. If I had four accounts all verified to one account, then I can vote once.

Oh my God, I think you just turned ME into a fursuit pervert.

Okay, maybe not really. But GAH, HOT. I strongly disagree about the "not as amazing" part. Pete doesn't delete the video! Patrick doesn't ask him to! You totally just made me go "n'aww" at a FURSUIT SNIPPET! ...!?
