The bearer of bad news says:

A few weeks ago, we told you about a new tool from Snap.com that provides visual previews on external links within your journal. Based on your positive response, we've enabled these graphics for Basic and Plus users. (Don't worry: If you already disabled the graphic previews, you will not have to do so again. Also, if you don't want to see graphic previews, you can easily disable them within your journal on the Viewing Options page under "Graphic previews.")

Yay. Bai-bai annoying thingies.

Yeah. I love how they always do this "you can opt-out" thing for stuff nobody wants in the first place.

I have yet to find one person that thinks anything about snap is a good idea.

It's weird that they say they got a "positive response"...

I think they're lying about the positive response. You still see them on other journals/comms if they don't know to turn them off, or if, shudder to think, they want them on.

What I find most annoying is that the only way you can turn Snap Previews off globally for all sites is to accept a freaking cookie from Snap. What kind of crap is that? "You're going to see this against your will unless you interact with our JavaScript and allow us to place a cookie on your machine." I said no to that and just installed the AdBlockPlus add-on for Firefox. So when I revert to free user status in May 2008 I also won't have to see any ads which I might otherwise have viewed had LJ not forced Snap Preview down our throats. I guess they kind of screwed themselves, huh?
